Glass art is taking over The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg from October 14–18, 2026. Reflections in Glass pairs the museum with Pittsburgh Glass Center and features creations by 15 artists responding to works in the galleries. Daytime hours are 10 a.m.–5 p.m. at 221 North Main Street. October 14–17 admission is $10 for nonmember adults and $5 for children ages 4–17; children 3 and younger and participating institution members enter free.
Sunday, October 18, is free for everyone. The final day's schedule includes outdoor glassblowing demonstrations from 10 a.m.–4 p.m., weather permitting, and mini mosaic making from 11 a.m.–3 p.m., while supplies last. Visitors can vote for the People's Choice Award until 3 p.m., with the winner announced at 4 p.m. Contemporary Glass from the Salatka Collection adds another exhibition to explore during the five-day celebration.
Glass After Dark takes place Friday, October 16, from 5:30–8 p.m., with music, artist encounters and Light Lab demonstrations. Separate evening tickets are listed at $5 for members and $15 for nonmembers, plus the noted online service fee. Advance registration is recommended, and some workshops are sold out. Review the museum's detailed schedules and ticket information, choose the activities that fit your household, and plan a visit built around your own curiosity. |

Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation is inviting neighbors to help create the 2026 Hobgoblin Hikes. Cedar Creek Park hosts the free event October 17, and Twin Lakes Park follows October 24; both run continuously from 7–9 p.m. Volunteers can serve as scare actors or trail guides, and groups are encouraged. The county seeks volunteers ages 15 and older; younger participants may help with an accompanying adult during the hike.
Cedar Creek's volunteer meeting is October 13 at 6:30 p.m. in its Activity Center. Twin Lakes' meeting is October 20 at 6:30 p.m. in its Activity Center; groups unable to attend together should send representatives. Separate signup links are available through the county's volunteer notice. Limited costume materials can be borrowed, volunteers may bring their own costumes, and the county specifies fake props only; staff can also arrange manual registration.
For visitors, the half-mile guided walks are recommended for ages 8 and older, with parents encouraged to attend. Costumes are welcome, no treats are distributed, and donations are appreciated. The hikes are planned rain or shine, with dangerous or severe weather the cancellation exception. Check county updates and park maps before traveling, dress for an outdoor evening, and call 724-830-3950 with questions about participating or attending. |

The library network's pass partnership provides free general admission for up to two adults and four children, with no fee to borrow a pass. Passes circulate for one week and cannot be renewed because demand is high. Check availability directly with your home library and plan ahead, especially for weekends, rather than assuming your preferred destination's pass will be ready.
Published partners include Historic Hanna's Town, West Overton Village, The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Fort Ligonier Museum and Lincoln Highway Experience. Confirm current pass coverage, seasonal hours and special-event requirements before making your outing. Autumn schedules matter: Historic Hanna's Town lists Education Center hours of Thursday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m., and historic building access on Saturdays after Labor Day through October. Its 2026 donation-based admission arrangements also deserve a check.
Choose an experience that fits your household, allow time for a break and ask the venue about accessibility needs. A shorter visit focused on one display or activity can be a useful way to introduce children to a new place. Use the library finder to contact your branch, compare the pass with current venue information, and mark the return date. A little preparation can turn a library benefit into a shared local discovery while leaving the pass ready for another family. |

Morosini Reserve in Murrysville offers a nearby option for an unhurried autumn nature walk. Westmoreland Conservancy describes the 183-acre property as a mix of open fields and woodlands, with improved, natural and mowed pedestrian trails. The Universal Pedestrian Trail provides a surfaced route intended to help visitors with mobility needs reach the pond and wildlife observation blind. The Conservancy reports trail repairs and an additional 400 feet of surfaced route, without dating that work.
The blind is described as accessible for visitors with mobility challenges and viewable from different heights. Ask about current surfaces and your planned route before a visit with a wheelchair, walker or stroller. Sounds of the Night is listed for October 24, 2026, at 7 p.m., meeting at the trail kiosk by the upper parking lot. The free event invites participants to quietly explore nighttime nature sounds; registration is requested.
Review the reserve map and contact the organizer about duration, lighting and suitability before choosing the evening outing. An independent daytime visit may better suit some households, and a shorter walk can still offer plenty to notice. The reserve is pedestrian only, with mobility aids excepted in general guidance. Keep dogs leashed, remove waste, follow habitat-restoration instructions and take out everything you bring; checking current policies helps protect the place for the next visitor. |
