Westmoreland County Receives $13 Million from State Casino Revenues |
Significant Funding Boosts Local Infrastructure and Community Projects |
Westmoreland County has been awarded $13 million from state casino revenues, marking a substantial investment in the region's development.
This funding, derived from the Local Share Account (LSA) program, is allocated to support various infrastructure and community enhancement projects across the county.
In 2024, the LSA program distributed $19.3 million to 53 municipalities and organizations within Westmoreland County, funding 89 projects.
These grants ranged from $6,967 to $850,000, addressing needs such as police and fire department equipment, road resurfacing, bridge reconstruction, and park improvements.
State Senator Kim Ward emphasized the positive impact of these funds, stating, "Live! Casino has been a real winner for taxpayers across the Commonwealth, but especially here in Westmoreland County."
Since its opening in 2020, Live! Casino has significantly contributed to the local economy, generating over $800 million and paying nearly $60 million in taxes last year alone.
These contributions have been instrumental in revitalizing economic development around the Westmoreland Mall area.
Hempfield Township, as the host municipality, received an additional $2.1 million from the LSA funds, which have been utilized for infrastructure improvements and public services.
Local leaders, including Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce President Dan Debone, have praised the casino's role in supporting community projects that might not have been feasible otherwise.
As Westmoreland County continues to benefit from these substantial investments, the focus remains on enhancing the quality of life for its residents through strategic infrastructure and community development initiatives. |
