Hitachi Energy's $70 Million Expansion to Create Over 100 Jobs in Westmoreland County |
Major Investment Enhances Sustainable Grid Infrastructure and Boosts Local Economy |
Hitachi Energy has announced a significant expansion in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, with an investment exceeding $70 million.
This initiative is set to create more than 100 new jobs in the region.
The expansion focuses on increasing production capacity for sustainable electrical grid infrastructure, including the company's EconiQ® line of sulfur hexafluoride (SF6)-free high-voltage switchgear and breakers.
These eco-efficient technologies are designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with global sustainability goals.
Key components of the investment include the transformation of the Mount Pleasant facility into a state-of-the-art manufacturing hub.
This upgrade will significantly boost the production of high-voltage products such as Dead Tank Breakers (DTB) and Plug and Switch Systems (PASS).
Additionally, a new facility in Hunker, Pennsylvania, approximately seven miles from Mount Pleasant, will be established.
This site will feature a dedicated research and development lab and a customer experience center, fostering innovation and collaboration.
To support this expansion, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) has provided a $184,000 Pennsylvania First grant and a $145,000 WEDnetPA grant for employee training.
Governor Josh Shapiro emphasized the significance of this investment, stating, "When a global technology leader like Hitachi Energy decides to invest and expand in our Commonwealth, it sends a strong message to companies across the nation and around the world that Pennsylvania is open for business."
Beyond job creation, this expansion is expected to enhance the reliability and resilience of North America's power grid.
By increasing the production of advanced, eco-friendly technologies, Hitachi Energy is positioning Westmoreland County as a strategic hub for high-voltage manufacturing and service.
Construction is slated to begin this year, with full production capacity anticipated by 2026.
This development underscores the region's growing prominence in the energy sector and its commitment to sustainable innovation. |
