Motorists traveling along Interstate 70 in Westmoreland County should expect delays this week as construction crews implement temporary lane restrictions.

According to PennDOT District 12, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in both directions between Exit 43 (Route 201 in Fayette City) and Exit 46 (Route 51/I-70 Interchange). The restrictions are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting.

The lane closures will allow crews to remove temporary bridge deck formwork from the newly constructed Crawford Lane Bridge. Drivers are urged to remain alert and use caution while passing through the work zone.

This activity is part of the larger $89 million Arnold City Interchange project along I-70, led by Golden Triangle Construction Co. The project aims to improve connectivity by linking Route 3011—which includes Finley Road and Indian Hill Road—as well as Daugherty Lane, to I-70.

The construction area covers approximately 1.75 miles, stretching from the I-70 bridge over the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad to about 1.37 miles east of the Arnold City Interchange.

Planned upgrades include widening the median from four feet to 10 feet and expanding the outside shoulders from 10 feet to 12 feet.
The redesigned interchange will feature a diamond layout, incorporating a five-leg roundabout to connect eastbound ramps with Indian Hill Road and Finley Road.

Additionally, the westbound ramps will be reconstructed into standard diamond ramps with a non-signalized intersection. To accommodate these improvements, the roadway will be shifted roughly four feet to the north.
