Young Ambassadors Program and Litter Cleanup in Westmoreland County, PA

Inspiring students through keep pennsylvania beautiful initiatives

The Young Ambassadors of Pennsylvania program is currently accepting applications from environmentally conscious high school students in Westmoreland County.

Administered by Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful in partnership with PennDOT, this initiative aims to cultivate the next generation of environmental leaders.

Students in grades 10 through 12 who are passionate about preserving Pennsylvania's natural beauty are encouraged to apply by June 10.

Selected ambassadors will serve a one-year term from September 2026 through May 2027, engaging in activities such as community assessments, organizing litter cleanup events, and participating in educational sessions on topics like waste management and civic engagement.

In Westmoreland County, the program has previously recognized outstanding students for their commitment to environmental stewardship.

For instance, in the 2024-2025 cohort, Emily Lori from Greensburg Central Catholic High School and Kathryn Trautmann from Franklin Regional Senior High School were selected as Young Ambassadors.

Their dedication to community service and environmental advocacy set a high standard for future participants.

Applicants should be prepared to attend six mandatory virtual education sessions, conduct a community assessment with a summary presentation, and organize a community cleanup event through the Pick Up Pennsylvania program.

These activities are designed to empower students to take an active role in maintaining and improving their local environments.

To apply or learn more about the program, interested students can visit the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful website or contact Kylie McCutcheon at 724-836-4121 x114.

By participating in the Young Ambassadors program, students not only contribute to the beautification of their communities but also develop valuable leadership and problem-solving skills that will serve them in future endeavors.

As PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll stated, "Through litter clean-up and prevention, stream restoration, and empowering their friends and neighbors, the next generation of environmental leaders are setting the standard for the rest of us."

Don't miss this opportunity to make a tangible impact in Westmoreland County and beyond.

Apply today and join the movement to keep Pennsylvania beautiful.
