Details on Westmoreland County Transit and the WCTA bus schedule

With the NFL Draft set to commence in Pittsburgh from April 23 to 25, Westmoreland County Transit Authority (WCTA) is gearing up to accommodate the anticipated surge in commuters traveling to the city.

Recognizing the potential strain on existing services, WCTA plans to introduce additional bus trips during the event. Specifically, there will be extra afternoon services into Pittsburgh on Thursday and Friday, with an aim to add three to four late-night return trips post-event. This initiative seeks to facilitate seamless transportation for both residents and visitors.

However, implementing these enhancements presents challenges, notably in staffing. WCTA's primary concern is ensuring sufficient drivers are available without compromising regular services. Efforts are underway to mobilize existing staff and supervisors to meet the increased demand.

Given the influx of over half a million visitors to Western Pennsylvania, many are opting to stay outside Allegheny County. This trend is expected to benefit local businesses in Westmoreland County, as visitors explore dining and shopping options in the area.

Importantly, these expanded services are designed to cater to local residents as well. Many community members are eager to participate in the NFL Draft festivities and will rely on WCTA for convenient transportation to and from the events.

For those planning to attend, the route to Pittsburgh will mirror the daily service, with no additional charges beyond the standard fare to the North Shore. WCTA is committed to deploying all available resources to manage the increased ridership during this significant event.

Attendees are encouraged to download the NFL OnePass app for real-time transit updates and to stay informed about any changes or additional services during the draft period.
