Fly-Fishing WorkshopA hands-on master class in fly fishing will be held from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Feb. 28 at Penn State Greater Allegheny Campus, Wonderly Gymnasium, 4000 University Drive, McKeesport. The session will be led by George Daniel, director and lead instructor of Penn State’s fly-fishing program. FundraiserPleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 423 Pleasant Grove Road, Cook, is now taking orders for its annual soup sale. Available soups include chicken noodle, ham and bean, beef vegetable, wedding and stuffed pepper, all priced at $8 per quart. Orders must be placed by March 2. Pick-up will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 7 at the church. Proceeds will benefit Samaritan’s Purse and United Methodist Church missionary efforts.
MeetingsMon Valley Paws will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Italian Club, 112 Seventh St., Monessen. New members are welcome. The Rostraver Sportsmen and Conservation Association, 559 Cedar Creek Road, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The club hosts trap shoots from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and at 10 a.m. Thursdays and 11 a.m. Saturdays. The public is welcome. Senior Citizen NewsThe Irwin Senior Activity Center, 310 Oak St., will celebrate National Clam Chowder Day during lunch on Wednesday. A presentation on smoke detector safety will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Donations are accepted for all activities. A Seniors for Safe Driving course will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 28 at Circleville Church of North Huntingdon, 11600 Parkway Drive. The PennDOT-approved class is open to drivers age 55 and older and may qualify participants for a 5% auto insurance discount for three years. Norwin High School will host its annual Senior Citizens Luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. March 8 in the school cafeteria, 251 McMahon Drive, North Huntingdon. District residents age 55 and older are invited to enjoy a free lunch and student entertainment. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Reservations are required by Friday. Special EventState Rep. Jill Cooper will host a question-and-answer session and community discussion from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Slickville Volunteer Fire Department, 128 Main St., Salem. Light refreshments will be provided. Veterans NewsA veterans service officer will be available to help explain Veterans Administration benefits from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Donegal American Legion, 3812 Route 31, Donegal Township. Veterans, spouses and widows are welcome. No appointment is necessary. |
