Chipotle Sets Sights on Westmoreland County with New Prototype Restaurant

Chipotle Mexican Grill is planning to introduce its latest restaurant design, known as the 'Habanero' model, in Irwin, Westmoreland County.

The proposed location at 9174 Route 30, formerly a Denny's restaurant, is situated approximately half a mile west of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Irwin exit.

The Irwin Planning Commission has unanimously recommended approval of the land development plan presented by Chipotle and Bohler, a Pittsburgh-based engineering firm.

The Irwin Borough Council is expected to vote on the plan in January, contingent upon Chipotle meeting all requirements from PennDOT and the Westmoreland Conservation District regarding stormwater management.

If approved, the new restaurant could open in 2026, featuring Chipotle's latest interior design concept, which includes new materials, textures, and artwork reflecting the company's commitment to food integrity and brand history.

The 'Habanero' model also incorporates pick-up lines inside and outside the store for online orders, along with indoor seating.

Chipotle's expansion into Irwin aligns with its broader strategy of introducing innovative restaurant designs across Pennsylvania.

Recent openings include a location in Towamencin Township, which brought new energy to a previously desolate shopping center, and a new restaurant in the Strip District featuring a walk-up window for mobile order pickups.

Additionally, Chipotle has announced plans for new locations in Ebensburg and Lewistown, further demonstrating the company's commitment to growth in the region.
