23 Dogs Rescued from Harsh Winter Conditions in Aliquippa

Beaver County Humane Society Intervenes Amidst Severe Weather

In the midst of a severe winter storm, the Beaver County Humane Society rescued 23 dogs found chained outside in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.

These dogs were discovered on Saturday, heavily chained without access to shelter, food, or water, and exhibiting signs of injury.

Humane society police officer Wendi Stafford reported that upon arrival, multiple dogs were heard crying and screaming from behind the property, clearly in distress.

The rescue operation was challenging due to the winter storm and strong winds, taking over five hours to safely remove the dogs.

Some of the dogs required emergency surgery, while others face a long and complex rehabilitation process.

The humane society is seeking volunteers and donations to assist in the care of these animals.

Executive Director Alison Yazer emphasized the importance of community support, stating that the shelter's resources are quickly depleted with such an influx of animals.

In light of this incident, the humane society urges pet owners to protect their animals from extreme cold.

They recommend bringing pets indoors and providing a warm, safe space, as prolonged exposure to cold can lead to hypothermia and frostbite.

Under Pennsylvania's Libre's Law, dogs cannot be tied outside for more than 30 minutes when it's colder than 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Violations can result in fines up to $15,000 and up to seven years in prison.

Community members are encouraged to report any instances of animal neglect or abuse to local authorities or the humane society.

For those interested in supporting the rescued dogs, the humane society welcomes donations and volunteers to aid in their recovery and care.
